Mount Sinai/Horeb
- where Moses receives the Law (Exodus 19-20)
Mount Zion
- originally the hill of Jerusalem (the city of David)
- symbol of God’s kingdom in many Psalms and prophetic writings (Psalm 2, Psalm 48)
Mount of Olives
- Jesus prays before arrest (Luke 22:39-44)
- Ascension (Acts 1:9-12)
Mount Carmel
- Elijah vs. prophets of Baal (I Kings 18)
Mount Tabor
- traditional site of Transfiguration (Matthew 17:1-8)
Mount Hermon
- northern boundary of the land of Israel (Deuteronomy 3:8)
- often suggested as the true Transfiguration site since it’s near Caesarea Philippi (Psalm 133:3)
Mount Ararat
- Noah’s ark resting place (Genesis 8:4)
Mount Moriah
- Abraham and Isaac (Genesis 22:2)
- later Temple site (2 Chronicles 3:1)
Mount Nebo
- Moses sees Promised Land before death (Deuteronomy 34:1-4)
Mount Gerizim
- Israel split into two groups; half stood on Mount Gerizim to pronounce blessings for obedience (Deuteronomy 27-28)
Mount Ebal
- Israel split into two groups; half stood on Mount Ebal to pronounce curses for disobedience (Deuteronomy 27-28)
