Field Notes: Mount Nebo

This one is also in the Not A Mountain Club. Mount Nebo is a ridge in modern-day Jordan overlooking the Jordan Valley and the land of Israel. According to the Bible, this is the place where Moses stood and viewed the Promised Land before his death.

From the summit, God showed Moses the land Israel would inherit, even though Moses himself would not enter it (Deuteronomy 34:1-4).

Moses died in this region after seeing the land.

Note: This is not a view of Mount Nebo, this is a view from Mount Nebo looking west across the Jordan Valley toward Israel. This is what Moses would have seen from the summit. Not the road, but…
