I’m reading through The Bible Recap reading plan. These are my weekly notes, observations, and questions as I go. I’m not the teacher. See right sidebar for the teacher! I’m just the student making copies of my notes for anyone who wants to steal them.

Bible Recap Notes – Week 12 (Days 78-84)

Day 78 – Deuteronomy 24-27
40 lashes.
Bro, just keep all the commandments, please.
TLC goes deep in her video today. She is the best option for commentary every day, but especially this day.
Day 79 – Deuteronomy 28-29
Check out Mountains of the Bible to see what Mount Gerizim and Mount Ebal look like today.
I mean…. woe to you if you abandon the covenant with the Lord. The result will not be good….. 😬
TLC makes a good point today that God keeps some things hidden from us to teach us to trust and obey.
Day 80 – Deuteronomy 30-31
Circumcise your HEART! There seems to be a theme. Maybe I will make a list of all the references to heart-circumcision that appear in the Bible.
The Word is very near you….
Day 81 – Deuteronomy 32-34; Psalm 91
32:35 – First biblical occurrence of “vengeance is mine”.
Interested in seeing Moses’ view from Mount Nebo? I found a picture.
Also – WE JUST FINISHED THE TORAH!!!!🎉📖
Day 82 – Joshua 1-4
In Joshua 2, Rahab lies to protect the spies in Jericho.
I am not sure I ever knew the Jordan was parted when the Israelites crossed into the promised land. I know I’ve read Joshua many times before but this never stuck until today – this reading of it. The priests carrying the Ark of the Covenant entered the Jordan and stood still (Michael Jackson anyone? Hold me, like the River Jordan… come on… Free Willy?) and the water upstream stopped. The Israelites crossed the Jordan on dry land. Wow. I really never knew this. (George Strait? The clouds roll back and the waters part, the sun starts shinin’ in my heart for you. I’m carryin’ your love with me…. come on, it can’t be “just me”). Joshua 3:13-17
Also I started thinking – was Jesus baptized at the same place the Ark and Israelites crossed the Jordan? Hmmm. Maybe. We will not be able to say for sure. The Israelites crossed “near Jericho” (Joshua 3:16), and John 1:28 says John the Baptist was working in “Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing people.”
Are those 12 stones still in the Jordan? Are the 12 stones still at Gilgal? I’m sure somebody has looked, but I can’t find any archaeological evidence that they were found in modern times. Maybe a rabbit hole worth going down someday. 🐇
Main thing from today is: THEY CROSSED INTO THE PROMISED LAND!!🙌
Day 83 – Joshua 5-8
So they marched around Jericho, priests blew trumpets, and the people shouted… and the walls fell down. Mellencamp anybody? 🎵When the walls come crumblin’ down, when the walls come crumblin’ crumblin’…dowwwwwwn?🎵 Is it just me? Jericho got shooooook, y’all! 📯💥
Back when I was in college in the late 80s, early 90s there was a rumor that no bands could play “Louie Louie” at USC’s football stadium (USC is University of South Carolina east of the Mississippi…. we don’t do Trojans around here…) because it made the upper decks sway. I one hundred percent believe certain vibrations can cause structural anomalies. I found an LA Times article from 1989 and a Chicago Tribune article, too. Then in 1990, the USC student newspaper reported that the beat of “Louie Louie” was similar to the upper deck’s natural frequency of motion, so when the crowd bounced to the beat simultaneously, the wave motion increased dramatically. Maybe I’m a tin foil hat person, but I believe it. Things that make you go “hmmmm”. 🤔
Day 84 – Joshua 9-11
The Gibeonite Scam:
It was very elaborate. They were scared, so they put on worn-out clothes, patched sandals, loaded up worn-out sacks, brought old, cracked and patched wineskins, and packed dry, crumbled bread. Then they rolled up into camp like “Whew! We’ve come from a verrrrrry distant country. You should definitely make a treaty with us.” So they flat-out lied. They lived right therrrrrrre. But in 9:14, Israel examined their provisions, but did not ask counsel of the LORD. So … they got fooled because they never asked God what the truth was. Fool me once, shame on…shame on you. It fool me eh can’t get fooled again!
I think these chapters are all about “If God be for us, who can be against us”.
Joshua and his army defeated all the surrounding landholders with God’s help. The story about the hailstones falling during the battle – and the hailstones killed more people than Joshua’s army did… That tells us God was the leader of this takeover.
11:6 – “….you shall… burn their chariots with fire”…. Come on. I had absolutely no choice here…. CHARIOTS OF FIRE! 🔥🎵
11:21-22 Joshua wipes out the Anakim from most of the land, but some remain in Gaza (not touching that one – we have a Bible Recap to finish and would like to get home before dark!), Gath, and Ashdod. Remember Gath. Centuries later, a particularly large gentleman named Goliath of Gath appears…

Bible Recap Notes – Week Five (Days 29-35)
Day 29 – Genesis 48-50 Apparently being the “firstborn” 🏆doesn’t really mean a lot if God has different designs. Tara-Leigh covers this in today’s video. Today, we officially get the designated 12 Tribes of Israel. Of Israel and …of Israel. 👥👥👥👥👥👥 Lion of Judah! 🔗 49:9 says Jacob’s son Judah “is a lion’s cub”. From…

Bible Recap Notes – Week Four (Days 22-28)
Day 22 – Genesis 30-31 What in the world is wrong with these people? Do they not believe in monogamy????? Again, the Bible records, not promotes. The Bible certainly doesn’t hide the chaos all this infidelity causes! Mandrake fruit – supposed to promote fertility. Rachel finally gets a baby!!!! Joseph. So Jacob negotiates his wages…

Bible Recap Notes – Week Three (Days 15-21)
Day 15 – Job 40-42 A lot of lessons here. God restores. Jobby Gilmore got his swing back. 🙌 God rebukes. Job’s friends learned a little “what goes around comes around”. (🎵”Don’t wanna think about it, don’t wanna talk about it, I’m just so sick about it. Can’t believe it’s endin’ this way🎵.…. shout out…

Bible Recap Notes – Week Two (Days 8-14)
Day 8 – Job 17-20 Today was somewhat repetitive, maybe by design? Job is still in misery and popping off verbally about how miserable he is. Job’s friends still insist that his suffering proves guilt. I retract my statement on Day 5 about the second friend being a keeper. Nope. For some reason, the Train…

Bible Recap Notes – Week One (Days 1-7)
Day 1 – Genesis 1-3 “Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves waist coverings.” (Genesis 3:7)“And the Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife, and clothed them.” (Genesis 3:21) Adam and Eve tried…
