Day 99 – 1 Samuel 4-8
Never really thought of God as being funny, but today, He was funny! The Philistines stole the Ark of the Covenant and put it in a temple with their pagan gods, specifically a statue of Dagon. When the Philistines woke up the next day, the statue of Dagon had “fallen” over in a worship posture in front of the Ark. They stand their god back up, and God is basically like, “Oh, you didn’t understand the first demonstration? Allow me….” and the next day when they wake up, the statue has fallen over and its head and both hands were cut off. You gotta read this passage. lol God got jokes! 😂🔥
Eli’s son Phineas had a wife who gave birth after he died and after the Ark was stolen. She named the baby “Ichabod”, which means “the glory has departed” in mourning of the Ark being taken. Also, Ichabod Crane (Legend of Sleepy Hollow) was a schoolteacher who believed in the supernatural. Interesting… 👀
Also, there is this song on Madden ’24 called “Heads Are Gonna Roll” by RDGLDGRN ft. Madalen Duke that says, “Heads are gonna roll at Sleepy Hollow.…” and it makes me laugh every time I hear it. Because it is 2026, and I am still playing Madden ’24 because Josh Allen. But… also… “heads are gonna roll at the temple of Dagon”, too…. 💀😂
TLC’s video is great today.
Day 100 – 1 Samuel 9-12
Saul was tall and that is all. 📏😂King Saul, not Saul/Paul. Saul/Paul was a shawty. 🤏😂
Samuel reminds Israel in 1 Samuel 12:12 that when they demanded a human king, “the Lord your God was your king”. 👑 I tried to make that point last week – see my note at the end of Day 96.
Day 101 – 1 Samuel 13-14
📚Learny Word of the Day:🤓 Mattock – is a tool kind of like a pickaxe crossed with a hoe, used for breaking up hard ground and cutting roots. ⛏️
Samuel advises Saul that God is raising up a leader to replace him. “A man after His own heart”…. and we know who that is!!! 👀📖
Saul vs. the Philistines⚔️
Jonathan (Saul’s son) ate some honey! Oh no! 🍯😬
Day 102 – 1 Samuel 15-17
The following are some very famous chapters….
Saul did not obey the Lord. Samuel let him know the Lord was mad. Saul tore his robe as he was leaving.
First time I’ve seen God referred to as “The Glory of Israel”.
The Lord sends Samuel to Jesse to choose the new king from his sons. Jesse presents one son at a time, and Samuel rejects them each.

Samuel sent out people to find a boy in the fields who played the harp. Now I’ve heard there was a secret chord that David played and it pleased the Lord…. and it pleased Saul, too. So now David became Saul’s armor bearer and music therapist. For the record, my favorite version of “Hallelujah” is by the kid from American Idol, Jason Castro…. please enjoy.
Day 103 – 1 Samuel 18-20; Psalm 11; Psalm 59
So Saul gets mad about a song people were singing about David and he gets jealous. Funny how a song can evoke all kinds of emotions like that.
If you think there is no cussing in the Bible, one must only read 1 Samuel 20:30 to realize the Bible has a little bit of everything in it.
Psalm 59:1-2 – Rescue me. Again… it was almost like a song.
What in the world does “selah” mean? Well…. I got you. Click here for a quick explanation – Que Selah, Selah.
Day 104 – 1 Samuel 21-24
Holy leftovers, Batman! David gets some leftover consecrated bread for his crew. The fact that the priests gave him consecrated bread definitely means something, but it also means something that David was willing to take leftovers… that’s my completely unsupported theological conclusion…
Be aware of your surroundings! While on the hunt for David, Saul goes into a cave to pee. Unbeknownst to him, David is hiding in there! David could have killed him, but he just cut off the edge of Saul’s garment. When they meet face to face soon afterward, David holds up the piece of cloth and says, “Yeah, bro, I could have killed you. But I didn’t. I am not your enemy.” (paraphrased. I don’t think Hebrews said “bro” back then…)
But it reminds me of Numbers 15:38-40 when the Lord told the Israelites to put a tassel on the corners of their garments. Scripture doesn’t say here that David cut off Saul’s tassel, so do not come at me with a King James and a pitchfork! But I feel like there is some symbolism here that I could absolutely fabricate. The tassel was to be a reminder of the Lord’s commandments, and Scripture tells us the Lord was not with Saul, but the Lord was with David. So…. Saul without a tassel is what came to my mind. David with the tassel. For more on the tassel situation, see my Still Waters blog called “Fringe Benefits“.
Tara-Leigh harkens back to when Saul tears off the corner of Samuel’s robe signifying the kingdom being torn away from Saul. I would go with her opinion over mine every day of the week. See link to her video below.
I’m still stuck on Saul peeing in a cave, though. That passage is in Scripture! And… I guess he wanted privacy? (I will grow up…. someday….)
TLC’s video today is much more mature…
1 Samuel 23:14-15 says David stays in the wilderness while Saul is hunting him. Israel spent 40 years in the wilderness and Jesus spent 40 days in the wilderness before beginning His ministry. Just another connection I noticed.
Day 105 – Psalm 7, 27, 31, 34, 52
I added some great verses to my Verse Vault.
Watch TLC’s video. I’m going to find a good Masada video and put it on my Unearthed page for ya.
