The Story of Hezekiah’s Tunnel

  • Hezekiah became King of Judah in around 715 BC
  • He redirected the city’s main water source (Gihon Spring) from outside Jerusalem’s walls to inside Jerusalem’s walls to protect it during siege
  • The tunnel was carved from two ends that met in the middle (confirmed by ancient inscription); an impressive engineering feat for the time
