Still Waters: What’s the Point?

What God Confirmed For Me Recently
“By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.”
Hebrews 11:3

I think a lot about God as Creator and why I believe what I believe. Logic has always been important to me, and logic is just a puzzle. Pieces fit together to make a whole picture.

The human body is the reason I believe in God as Creator. The intricacies of our chemistry, our DNA, and the fact that we have completely separate systems for circulation, reproduction, waste, respiration, digestion, etc. We have the bones to support and protect our organs and the skin to house it all. That didn’t just happen. I believe God planned that. The magnificence of the human body alone convinced me that God is our Creator.

Science can explain everything but….the beginning.

Hear me, though – I am not anti-science. Science is fascinating to me, and I think it has taken people much smarter than I am to translate and clarify what I believe is God’s engineering.

A few months ago, I watched a documentary on Prime Video called “Universe Designed“, and I haven’t been able to get it out of my mind. I watched the credits roll feeling like something I had always believed had been freshly confirmed. Science can describe a lot of the majesty of the universe. Science can explain energy, motion, thermodynamics, and a whole host of other things I cannot and will not ever fully understand.

But science can’t explain the beginning.

Think of a sprinkler that sprays water out as it rotates. That motion is a simplified picture of how I imagine the universe expanding. Now freeze that image and start reversing it in your mind. If you reverse the movement of the UNIVERSE, it will eventually retreat to a single point.

What is the point?

A spiral traced backward leads to a single point.

No branch of science I have ever heard of can explain the point. There had to be something there that made up “the point” of the universe, but where did that something come from?

After much pondering, I think science – physics, math, and all the rest – is just us humans trying to translate God. It’s us trying to read His blueprints and interpret His lab notes.

Science can explain everything except…. the beginning. Science can explain every single thing after the appearance of “the point”, but it does not explain the existence of the point. Everything following the point can be called the languages of science, but for me, science is the language God uses to reveal Himself. He reveals enough for us to understand a little bit of it. Of course, not even the real brainiacs among us are going to be able to understand all of it, but God always gives us enough to wonder. More than wonder, God gives us enough to believe.

The heavens don’t argue for the glory of God. They declare it. Psalm 19:1 says they do: “The heavens tell of the glory of God; And their expanse declares the work of His hands.”

So I come back to the question, “What’s the point?” For me, when everything spirals back to one point, that point has to be God. There is no other explanation. Science cannot replace the Creator. God already told us how it all began.

“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” – Genesis 1:1

Prayer for When a Revelation Feels Like Confirmation
Lord, thank You for the moments when You reveal what You have already planted in me and turn belief into awe.

If you remember me mentioning logic before, it’s here in “More Than Zero“, but don’t miss last month’s “Harnessed“!
