Field Notes: Widow in Zarephath

A widow in Zarephath had almost nothing left. All she had for her and her son was enough for one last meal before the food ran out. A handful of flour and a little oil was all that was left.

Then Elijah appeared at her door and asked her to feed him first.

It was incomprehensible. She barely had enough for her own family, and now here’s this stranger demanding to be fed. But she trusted the promise Elijah gave her from the Lord and did it anyway.

Just as promised, the jar of flour did not run out, and the oil did not run dry.

Faith means trusting God before you know how things are going to work out.

This is the Shield of Faith.
