Field Notes: Stephen

What do you do when everyone around you is nodding along with something you know good and well is not true? Speaking up will make the whole room turn on you. Do you have the courage to speak up?

Stephen stood before the Sanhedrin in Jerusalem accused of blasphemy, surrounded by leaders who had already decided his fate. Instead of defending himself, he walked them through their own history and pointed directly to Jesus as the One they had rejected. The truth landed hard. Hard enough to make them furious. Hard enough to cost Stephen his life, but once the Word was spoken, it could not be taken back.

This is the Sword of the Spirit.
