Day 57 – Numbers 7
My Bible narrator (YouVersion Bible app) said “incense”, but I heard “insects”. Made me look.
Basically, twelve dudes brought stuff to the Lord in this chapter. Shekels, oxen, rams, goats, lambs…

Basically, some Levites got ox carts. Some didn’t because the holy objects they were responsible for were to be carried on their shoulders using poles. File that away. It matters later when we get to David….
Day 58 – Numbers 8-10
🥩🌾🔥At this point, I’m wondering where all this meat and grain are going and why does the Lord need to eat. Color me stupid, but I needed to understand this so I did some digging. Because the Levites couldn’t own land to raise animals or grain, the food offerings were shared among the priests and the Levites (basic – it is way more complicated than that, but that’s the 40,000 foot view). And God obviously didn’t need food. When Scripture says “given to God”, it means the offering was burned, and the ashes were taken elsewhere to dump.
The priests retired at 50? This is part of the Old Testament I would like to adopt, please! 👴🏻🏖️😎
Day 59 – Numbers 11-13
🔥😤You may continue to verbally rail against adversity without expecting spontaneous combustion. This is a specific judgment on Israel during the wilderness period, not establishing a rule that God physically punishes every Christian who complains. The Bible is full of people complaining to God. You read Job, right? And David practically made a career out of it in Psalms. The difference is bringing your distress to God versus developing an attitude of rebellion and faithless grumbling against God. We are safe and can get back to wondering why the cost of living is increasing faster than our pay and why spiders keep re-webbing🕷️🌺between the hydrangeas right in front of the water spicket😡 and why our cars break down right when we spent our excess on duct cleanings or window replacement.

Day 60 – Numbers 14-15; Psalm 90
Psalm 90 is the only psalm that Moses wrote.
TLC covers this, but I saw the same thing today. All sins are not equal. Some sins are worse than others, and God cares about our motive.
God shows that He is faithful to us, no matter how many times we turn away. We don’t even deserve Him. I will strive to be as faithful to Him as He has been to me.
Day 61 – Numbers 16-17
📖Learny Word of the Day: Censer – a container used to burn incense before the Lord. Duh. I’ve never felt so dumb. Incense. Incenser. Censer. smh
Aaron is definitely the High Priest. God let those people knowwwwww!🎶🎶

Day 62 – Numbers 18-20
Listen closely. God told Moses to speak to the rock to get water. Last time a rock was involved, God told him to strike it. Moses either didn’t listen closely, or he rebelled against God’s instructions. Because of this, God would not allow Moses to finish. Moses nor Aaron would enter the Promised Land of Canaan that they had worked all their lives for.
🌅 The lesson here for me is “don’t assume”. Don’t go on autopilot. Listen each day. Each day is a new day. I have a friend from high school, Randy Ramey, who is a preacher/pastor now. He always posts inspirational memes and sayings on Facebook with the hashtag #ItsANewDay. And that’s the point. Every day is a new day. Listen to the Lord every day like it’s the first time.
This is the first mention of a red heifer🐄 in the Bible. If you have a week of PTO and don’t have anything else to do, you can dive down this end-times prophecy rabbit hole. Just start searching “red heifer prophecy”. But seriously – make sure you have some time.
🌿Hyssop keeps showing up at major cleansing and deliverance moments. At Passover, Israel uses hyssop to put the lamb’s blood on doorposts, and today in 19:18, hyssop is dipped into the water (please check out my page “Dip Me in the Water“) to sprinkle it on the tent, objects, and people who had become unclean through contact with a dead body. At the crucifixion a sponge was lifted to Jesus’ lips on a branch of hyssop. 👀🌿✝️ Was Jesus’ “dead body” being purified at the cross? I don’t know. I made the connection…. that’s all I know.
Aaron’s clothes are given to Eleazar before he dies.👕It’s symbolic, obviously, because it was the official transfer of the high priesthood from father to son. But it made me think. Aaron….AARON…. all Aaron left to his son was the clothes on his back. Maybe we worry too much about what we are leaving behind. Why am I saving all this money? Why am I keeping those dishes? Why am I paying this life insurance premium? Who cares? Let’s leave behind something important instead.
Day 63 – Numbers 21-22
21:3 – “The Lord heard the voice of Israel….” 🙏🙏 So He hears our voices. So we must think the words and say the words. This is prayer! Don’t we all love to talk to people who are actually listening? People don’t listen to me a lot. But God does…. so I’m talking to Him more and more these days.
Balaam was a real dude. There is historical evidence of his existence. Click here for a short video about the Deir ‘Alla stele found in 1993 that contains a reference to Balaam son of Beor.
👀Another Christophany!!? There’s that angel of the Lord again! Don’t let anybody tell you Christ is only in the New Testament. 👀
The reference to “The Book of the Wars of the Lord” 📜appears to have been an ancient collection of songs or accounts of Israel’s battles and God’s victories. The book itself hasn’t survived, so nobody knows who wrote it or what all it contained. There is no other reference to this book in the Bible or any other historical work. 📜
