Day 29 – Genesis 48-50
Apparently being the “firstborn” 🏆doesn’t really mean a lot if God has different designs. Tara-Leigh covers this in today’s video.
Today, we officially get the designated 12 Tribes of Israel. Of Israel and …of Israel. 👥👥👥👥👥👥
Lion of Judah! 🔗 49:9 says Jacob’s son Judah “is a lion’s cub”. From Judah’s line will come the full blown, grown, mature actual LION “of Judah”. 🦁
God says many times in Genesis “I will make you fruitful”, 🍇 but God also says “be fruitful and multiply”. 🍇So which is it? Does God do it, or do we do it? I mean, who is actually responsible for the multiplication? Had to do a dig. In the end, I think this is an example of obedience. If we obey, God will bless. So it’s our obedience and God’s sovereignty working together.
🪦🪦Was curious about whether Jacob’s, Rachel’s, etc. burial sites have ever been found and confirmed. Not really. There are traditional locations named. According to Genesis, they’re buried in the Cave of Machpelah near Hebron. Today, there’s an ancient site called the Tomb of the Patriarchs built over that cave. Jews, Christians, and Muslims have acknowledged it for centuries. It has not been proven archaeologically because it is an active holy site and has therefore not been excavated.
Joseph does not ask to be buried in Canaan, which was weird to me. But…he says in verse 25 “…you shall carry my bones up from here” after God “takes care of you”. I don’t quite understand why, if he knew his bones would leave Egypt anyway that he didn’t just request to be buried in Canaan. It will take some time for me to process this. But knowing that Moses carries his bones🚶from Egypt during the Exodus, the only thing I can come up with is that his bones/coffin serve as a reminder to Israelites in Egypt that their stay there is not permanent. It became a symbol of God’s promise💙 that would one day be fulfilled. It’s a symbol of hope and faith.🙏 But … I reserve the right to correct myself later….because I am not an expert or a theologian. I am just a curious Christian.
Day 30 – Exodus 1-3
Moses has entered the chat.
There’s that Angel of the Lord again…. in a burning bush.
TLC’s recap is great. The main question I had was….
I AM.
“I am”. “I Am.” I just didn’t get it. Tara-Leigh sums it up pretty good. This is how I will always think of it:
“I have always been what I will always be.”
Day 31 – Exodus 4-6

Moses’ staff turned into a serpent and all that. 🐍 I wonder if the 23 Psalm would have comforted Moses. Too bad it wasn’t written yet.

The Hebrew slaves were making bricks.🧱 Not sure I ever knew that. No, they were not building the pyramids. The pyramids were already towering over the landscape and were already ancient even to the Egyptians.
They were building admin buildings, city walls, temples, government buildings, and …brrriiiiick house(s). 🎶Well put together, everybody knows this is how the story goes.🎵 Mighty, mightay… 🎶
Moses seems obsessed with his own shortcomings. Moses and Jenny have a lot in common…. 😅
I am the LORD. That is really all we need to remind ourselves of daily. He is the LORD. ❤️
Day 32 – Exodus 7-9
Aaron’s staff swallowed their (sorcerer’s) staffs. Because… I AM THE LORD.
Instances of non-God people doing the same thing God did – turning a staff into a serpent and turning water to blood, frogs. The Devil does this, I think. How do we know the difference? 🐍🩸🐸🤔 So they have a blood problem and a frog problem, so they…. create more blood and frogs? Because Satan is a counterfeiter – an imitator. He is not a redeemer.
But they could not produce gnats….or dust…. because Satanic power has a ceiling.
🩸Nile turns to blood.
🐸Frogs.
🦟Gnats.
🪰Flies.
🐄Livestock plague.
🤕Dust and boils.
🌩️Hail.
Don’t start none, it won’t be none. Don’t mess with the Lord’s people.

Moses got Joseph’s bones to carry with them. God’s promise fulfilled.⚰️➡️🏞️
There’s that angel of the Lord again!

I guess I never realized the parting of the Red Sea and the Israelites crossing over was at night. Pay attention, Jenny! 😂
So God kills enemies? And it’s okay for his people to kill enemies? He told Moses to close up the Sea on top of the Egyptians…. TLC kind of covers this in her Day 34 video. She says “when you love someone you hate everything that is against it” (paraphrased). I guess that’s good enough for me! 🌊⚖️
🌳💧I need to know more about this tree that made the water drinkable. It’s on my list to dig into. 🔎
Day 35 – Exodus 16-18
Complaints against Moses are actually complaints against God. Gotta apply this in real life. Doing better, but it helps to remember that other people are also God’s creation.
17:9 – Joshua enters the chat.
Is manna a real thing? I mean – does it naturally occur and God just used it in an extraordinary way?
I did some research. 🌳Remember in Week 3 when Abraham planted a tamarisk tree to honor God (an everlasting tree, an everlasting God…)? 🐝In the Sinai, certain insects feed on tamarisk trees and leave behind a sweet, resin-like substance. It sort of looks like white flakes, small beads, and tastes sweet like honey. I think there are also other trees that secrete a resin that is similar, and other trees that insects feed on and then secrete a similar resin. 🤏I’m sticking with the tamarisk tree here (because manna is sticky/tacky…see what I did there?) because Abraham planted one and it just makes sense to me. The tamarisk tree was called an “everlasting tree.” Manna lasted for forty years. God is everlasting. 2+2=4 where I come from.
Does this mean the manna in Exodus was from tamarisk trees? No, I’m not saying that, but I guess it’s possible.
Some notes about Biblical manna:
🌅Appeared six days a week, but not on the Sabbath
📅Lasted 40 years
👥Fed hundreds of thousands of people
🍯Could be baked and boiled
🪱Spoiled overnight except before the Sabbath
🛑Stopped the very day Israel entered Canaan
No natural tree sap or insect secretion does all that.
But… as we have seen, through God, all things are possible. God is the Master of using ordinary things in extraordinary ways. Something to think about. More… something to be excited about.
