Sometimes we just get tired of fighting. Conflict arises, and yeah, we could go at it again – but those times when we choose not to are the pinnacle of self-control and often where peace can be found.
Isaac’s servants dug a well in the valley, and the local herdsmen immediately claimed it as their own. Instead of arguing, Isaac moved and dug another well. They took that one, too. Again, Isaac moved and dug another.
When he dug that last well, no one claimed it and nobody argued about it. Isaac named it Rehoboth, saying, “Now the Lord has given us room and we will flourish in the land.”
Peace sometimes looks like refusing to fight every single battle. We’ve all been there.
There is a time and a place for everything, but sometimes choosing quiet is the only way to get some rest.
This is the Gospel of Peace.
